Karin Annan African Painting - Bright Yellow Zim Arts Book Cover

Karin Annan

Karin Annan - PainterGrowing up and living in Zimbabwe, my early memories are of the vibrant colours, falling blossoms and blinding brightness of plants in flower. The colourful fabric prints worn and loud laughter of the wonderful uninhibited people I am fortunate enough to encounter still now, daily.

My inspirations are drawn from these people and the joy we find in being part of a community in times of hardship.

I studied City and Guilds of London in Design for Print at the Harare Polytechnic, which stood me in good stead for employment as a graphic designer for over eighteen years. From Harare to Hamburg, Germany; to Bristol, England.

Curiosity caused me to diversify my career paths, encompassing training, qualifying and successfully engaging in Mechanical Engineering, being a Safari Guide and Lodge Manager in a 'Big Five' African Game Reserve, Humanitarian Aid and Team Building Events. My form of release and constant passion throughout, was creating paintings relevant to my environment at that time.

Exhibitions: Wildlife Artist of the Year 2002 in Bristol, UK, receiving the Silver Award presented to me by Sir David Shepherd himself.

Kumba Gallery, Harare, Zimbabwe: Lucky Bean Exhibition 2012, joining a compilation of artists.

I aim to create art which evokes the viewer to feel happy and positive emotions through colour and subject matter, bringing good memories as well as relating traditional and aesthetic beauty.
